40,000Miles, Ultras

24 Hours … SoCal Ragnar

surfers walking on glorious sunset beachBack at it seven months after our inaugural ultra relay and with it, another California destination, along the south banks of the North American continent.  We take stride in Huntington Beach, one of several beach communities I used to swing through in my … youth.

Fortunately, my long ago Penn State roommate, now a master engineer for SpaceX, set permanent roots in the surf area, along with another Penn State roommate who spends his time flying planes around the world or something of that undisclosed nature. First we’ll take in a helping of nostalgia along the Pacific Ocean and come Friday 8 am, the Go Ultra or Go Home team will start the jaunt from Los Angels to San Diego, off trail, on highway, and hopefully, with the beach in our zone.  Few starts in America can be as dramatic as crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, but we’re not complaining about sunny California as long as the sun doesn’t bake us.

While most of our team is in tact from Ragnar Napa, we have a brother swap in Gerry for Rob who will join us again in future ultra relays after he has fully recovered from his laborious, nine-plus month food starved battle with cancer.  We’ll gladly run once again in honor of his kiss my ass cancer attitude.  Go Ultra or Go Home.
